Oki! Tansi! Hello!
We had another great week in EDC at Niitsitapi. This week, our learning focus was on Names and Numbers. Recognizing your name in various forms of print is an important skill for young learners to learn. Recognizing names allows children to develop independence within the classroom. We have also been learning to count and recognize numbers.
Here are some photos that highlight our names and numbers learning this week:
Using letter tiles to build our names. The uppercase and lowercase letters are different to help children understand the importance of starting their names with an uppercase letter.
Tracing our names using white board markers. Pictures of children are placed on the name mats in order to support identification of the correct name mat.
We also practiced forming the letters in our names using water colour paint.
Children learning to recognize numbers and learning to use 1:1 correspondence to count objects.
Each week we also have a sort of book study where we focus some of our learning on that book. This week, our book was "The Dot" by Peter Reynolds. This is a great book for young learners as it suggests that every person is capable of greatness. A young student feels that they can not draw and a teacher shows this student that she can accomplish great art using a simple dot. Here is our exploration of the book with every student creating their own unique works of art using the idea of a simple dot.
Using paint to create our own dots.
Colouring coffee filter dots and then spraying water on them to see the colours mix and spread.
We hope everyone has a great weekend!
