March 15th-18th Highlights in EDC

 Oki! Tansi! Hello!

It was a another great week here at the Niitsitapi Learning Centre.

This week, we continued to explore counting and number recognition. Using various books, we explored counting in English, Blackfoot, Cree and Ojibway.

Using number puzzles for number recognition practice.

Building number towers with unifex cubes; a great way to practice number recognition, counting and strengthening our hand and finger muscles.

Number Chutes: Placing the correct number of rocks in each cardboard chute.

Race to 10: A fun game where children roll the dice and move their bear to see who reaches the number 10 first.

Practicing our counting and colouring skills.

Using our artistic skills, we created textured, tactile number walls for us to practice counting and number recognition.

Some more pictures of play and learning.

April calendars will be coming home this week. Just a reminder that EDC children do not have school this Thursday or Friday as Spring Break starts. Children will be away from school from Thursday March 25th -Friday April 9th. They will return to school on Monday April 12th.
Have a wonderful weekend!

EDC Fun: March 8-11

 Oki! Tansi! Hello!

It was another eventful week in EDC here at Niitsitapi. We had Music with Ms. Nuna on Monday and Wednesday, and with the warm weather, we got to spend alot of time outside.

This week, we explored the book "Lines that Wiggle" by Candace Whitman.

This story highlights the different types of line, and where we can find lines (leaves, trees, stripes on animals, spider webs). We had fun talking about straight, squiggly, bumpy, curly, and zig-zag lines, and children were given the opportunity to practice making these lines and finding them in the school and outdoor environment. Below are some pictures of us exploring lines through Art.

Children practicing making different types of lines using paint.

Practicing our lines using chalk to make "silly-haired hedgehogs".

Practicing our self-portrait drawing, but added lines for silly-hair.

After we learned and practiced making lines, we continued to demonstrate our learning by drawing and creating lines during Free Choice Play time.

We also continued to practice recognizing, building and printing our names.

More pictures of fun, learning and play.

Again, we want to thank you all for sending us your amazing children every day. We feel blessed to share this learning journey with them. We hope you all have a wonderful weekend!
