January 25-28 Highlights

 Oki! Tansi! Hello!

We had another great week in EDC at Niitsitapi, even with the extremely cold weather. Below you will find pictures of a few of our learning projects this week.

Using tree cookies, we made painted snowman faces. First, children spent time exploring the tree cookies; touching, smelling and discussing the bark, needles and sap that were still on the tree cookies. We then used a variety of paint to create our snowmen. The children were so focused and their snowman faces show great detail.

Another project we worked on this week was beaded snowflakes. Using pipe cleaners and a variety of beads, each child made a snowflake as unique as them. This was a great activity to strengthen our fine motor skills.

Given the fact that our weather was so cold this week, we also decided to see what else could be frozen and froze liquid paint. We then used our frozen paint "popsicles" to create colourful pictures that will be used as a backdrop for a future project.

Here are some other pictures of the play and learning that took place this week.

We hope everyone has a great weekend!

January 18-21: Weekly Highlights

 Oki! Tansi! Hello!

We had another great week in EDC at Niitsitapi Learning Centre. Below you will find some pictures that highlight the fun we had.

One of our Art Projects was inspired by the book "Snowballs" by Lois Ehlert:

We used a mixture of white paint and glue to make "puffy paint". We then painted snowmen onto our papers and stuck a variety of materials to give them detail like eyes, noses, hair etc. Here are some pictures of the fun:

Another project we worked on was torn paper melted snowmen. We had to tear paper with our hands and glue it on paper to make a snowman's melted face. We then glued on eyes, a mouth, a hat and of course, a carrot nose. This project really helped us build our finger muscles as we had to tear paper! Here are some pictures:

Here are some additional photos that show some of the other fun and learning that happened this week:

Have a great weekend everyone!

Weekly Highlights- January 11th-13th

 Oki, Tansi, Hello!

Here a few highlights from our short week in EDC at Niitsitapi Learning Centre.

In the following pictures, students are completing a polar bear art project that took several steps to complete:

Step 1: We dipped paper cut-outs of polar bears into a warm bath (each student had their own tub of water).

Step 2: We put our wet bears onto large white paper and covered everything in a mix of light blue, dark blue and white paint.

Step 3: We pulled the paper polar bears off.

Just a reminder that there is no school for EDC children tomorrow (Thursday January 14th) and Friday (January 15th) due to Parent Teacher Interviews.
Have a great weekend and we will see everyone on Monday!
