Oki! Tansi! Hello!
Although it was a short week, we had alot of fun in our EDC program at Niitsitapi. Here are some of the highlights:
Every day, we come together for a classroom meeting. We sit in a circle formation, and every child is given the opportunity to speak; similar to the traditional Indigenous Talking Circle. Below, you will see some photographs of our daily group meeting.
We start each meeting by singing our Hello Song. In addition to "hello", we also sing using the Blackfoot greeting of Oki and the Cree greeting of Tansi.
Reading stories is very important in EDC and we try to ensure that our stories are interactive and allow for children to participate in the storytelling in order to further develop their language skills.
We review our daily schedule so that children are aware of the events and activities of the day.
Children are also given the opportunity to express how they are feeling during each class meeting. We believe it is important to connect to spirit in EDC, and it is important that children have the opportunity to express their emotions. Children may use a visual to express their emotions, or they may draw how they are feeling.
Below you will find more photos that highlight our learning and play this week.
